Guangzhou Xinsha Port’s automotive port saw a 163% year-on-year increase in new energy vehicle exports in the first quarter.
China News Service, Guangzhou, April 21 (Guo Jun, Chen Xiuhui, Cai Xiaoyan) On the afternoon of April 20, with a clear whistle, the "Capricorn Leader" ship successfully set sail from the Xinsha Port Auto Terminal in Guangzhou, carrying over 3,500 domestically produced cars to Australia, of which approximately 85% are new energy vehicles.
According to the person in charge of the Xinsha Port Auto Terminal, in the first quarter of 2026, the terminal achieved a year-on-year growth of 160% in foreign trade exports, with new energy vehicle exports increasing by 163% year-on-year.
To ensure smooth transportation, the Guangzhou maritime department proactively engaged with enterprises, conducted in-depth research on their needs, and provided professional maritime guidance. They established a "one ship, one policy" service file to ensure crew competency, vessel seaworthiness, and proper cargo loading, forming a closed-loop safety management system. Additionally, priority channels were set up for key vessels, port entry and exit procedures were optimized, the approval process for shipborne hazardous materials was expedited, and a rapid response mechanism was established to coordinate port units in handling emergencies, ensuring "zero delays" in material transportation. Furthermore, the maritime department conducted spot checks on the status of navigation equipment and watchkeeping in critical waterways such as channel intersections to prevent the risk of collisions between commercial and fishing vessels.
The rapid growth in automobile exports is a concentrated reflection of the transformation and upgrading of China's automobile industry and the improvement of its comprehensive strength. It is reported that Chinese automobile brands currently account for nearly one-quarter of the new car market in Australia, with standout brands including BYD and Great Wall. (End)
