Ni Zhen: During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the electrification and replacement of conventional freight trucks with electric vehicles can achieve substantial progress.
Beijing, March 25 (Reporter Wang Ziqian) Ni Zhen, Chairman of China Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd., said at the Boao Forum for Asia 2026 Annual Conference's sub-forum "Integration of Transportation and Energy Development, Building a Green Future" that after achieving power energy substitution in household commercial vehicles, significant development during the "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan" period will be in the power substitution of highway freight vehicles. Currently, highway freight vehicles account for nearly 70% of total transportation emissions, and if power substitution is achieved, their energy operating costs can be reduced by 8% to 15%. Additionally, due to certain economic obstacles, it is expected that shipping electrification substitution will be in the initial development stage during the "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan" period.
