The China Container Industry Association has launched a green product evaluation system.
On April 22, at the opening of the 2026 Container Multimodal Transport Asia Exhibition in Shanghai, the China Container Industry Association announced the launch of a green product evaluation system and released the first batch of green container products. This initiative aims to promote the interconnection of green low-carbon data chains in the container industry and support the industry's green upgrade.
Huang Tianhua, President of the China Container Industry Association, introduced at the exhibition that this is the industry's first voluntary green product evaluation system. The association has established a comprehensive evaluation system for container green levels based on five dimensions: resources, energy, environment, quality, and low carbon. The evaluation adopts a three-end collaborative model involving the association's management platform, enterprise self-declaration, and third-party independent review.
A total of 27 products from 16 companies received the first batch of green product evaluations, among which 18 products from companies such as CIMC Containers (Group) Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Universal Logistics Equipment Co., Ltd. reached the level of green benchmark products.
Li Jun, Executive Vice President of the China Container Industry Association, stated that the association initiated the industry's green low-carbon development proposal in July 2024, calling on the entire industry to accelerate the pace of green low-carbon development and build a green low-carbon supply chain system. The green low-carbon action in the container industry is anchored on two core goals. First, to implement international mutual recognition and trust requirements for product carbon footprint rules, proactively respond to the EU CBAM carbon tariff, and promote international mutual recognition of container carbon footprint standards, rules, and databases, ensuring alignment of results in carbon footprint calculation and certification between production enterprises and upstream and downstream enterprises. Second, to promote green grading of container products, achieve large-scale green premium for container products, and guide the market to form a virtuous mechanism of "low carbon has value, green premium," turning low-carbon value into market competitiveness.
Green low-carbon is a crucial part of the green evaluation system. Li Jun introduced that in January 2026, the China Container Industry Green Low-Carbon Public Service Platform will officially be put into use, with the first batch of 25 production enterprises and 5 certification institutions joining. The platform will unify standards, accounting models, databases, and evaluation rules. It will deploy high-quality domestic and international background databases, open supply chain carbon data entry, and support interconnection with enterprise carbon platform data.
During the exhibition, the China Container Industry Association released the "China Container Supply Chain Development Report (2025-2026)," which shows that China's total container production in 2025 is expected to reach approximately 6.45 million standard containers.
The 2026 Container Multimodal Transport Asia Exhibition is jointly organized by the China Container Industry Association and Informa Markets Group, attracting over 100 exhibitors from more than 60 countries and regions worldwide. The exhibition focuses on three main themes: the industry's green low-carbon transformation, deep participation of port and shipping enterprises, and analysis of international trade and economic trends. It showcases the digital and intelligent upgrades of the container industry chain and green innovation achievements. Global port, shipping, logistics, equipment, and technology enterprises gathered to discuss new paths for efficient, green, and collaborative supply chain development amid changing circumstances.
The China Container Industry Association is the only nationwide industry organization covering the entire container industry chain. Informa Markets Group is an internationally renowned exhibition organizer. The Container Multimodal Transport Asia Exhibition has been held for 11 editions.
