The 40-day railway Spring Festival transportation in 2026 ended on March 13, and both passenger and freight transportation achieved growth and set a record high during the same period. In terms of passenger transportation, the country's railways sent a total of 0.538 billion passengers, up 4.8 percent year-on-year. The railway department made full use of the newly opened high-speed rail lines and newly put into operation EMUs to deeply tap the transport capacity, operating 12861 passenger trains per day, up to 14037 in a single day, and the transport capacity increased by 8.3 compared with the same period last year. The service has introduced convenient measures such as free refund of time limit for mispurchases, telephone booking for elderly passengers, and a minimum 20% discount on tickets for non-popular routes, and strengthened travel protection for key groups such as students and migrant workers. In terms of cargo transportation, the national railway sent a total of 0.424 billion tons of goods, up 2.1 percent year on year. By giving full play to the capacity of the main freight channels, 10,000-ton heavy-duty trains will be operated, priority will be given to ensuring key materials such as thermal coal, grain, and chemical fertilizers, and coal storage in direct power plants will remain high. In terms of international logistics, 3582 trains were opened in Central Europe and Central Asia, an increase of 15.5 percent over the same period last year, and the new land-sea corridor in the west and the cross-border transport of the China-Laos railway continued to increase, strongly supporting the stability of the international supply chain and economic and trade exchanges. The overall Spring Festival transportation has achieved safety, stability and order, reflecting the efficiency improvement and service optimization of railway transportation.
